Happy 2018, UUCC!

As we enter a new year together, there is a lot going on here at our church! Intention is our monthly worship theme, and we’ve got a variety of great worship coming up.

On January 14th, we’ll be exploring how to set powerful intentions in our lives and community.

On January 21st, we have a really exciting opportunity in worship. UUCC will be participating in the Unitarian Universalist Association’s Promise and Practice Sunday. On this Sunday, we’ll experience worship that features the words and voices of Black Unitarian Universalists and Unitarian Universalists of color. We’ll also be sharing our offering that morning with BLUU, the Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism organizing collective. It’s an opportunity for UUCC to connect with the larger conversation about racism, power, and privilege that’s happening in the UUA. According to the UUA, “The Promise and the Practice of Our Faith Campaign is our opportunity to take the lead as a faith  in addressing our history of upholding white supremacy. Together, we can collectively work to dismantle it and amend a long broken promise to the Black Lives within our Association.” You can find out more about the campaign here.

After service that day, at 11:45, we’ll have a conversation about the history of the UUA as it relates to the civil rights era. It will be an opportunity to learn more about the missteps in our institutional past, and a chance to have a conversation about what the future might hold for the Unitarian Universalism as it seeks to actively dismantle racism. I really hope that you will join us that Sunday for an opportunity to grow together in our capacity to build a more just world.

On January 28th, we’ve got a real humdinger of a Sunday. We’ll be having our first ever UUCC Plug In Sunday! We’ll have a shorter worship service, focusing on the ways that being involved at UUCC offers us spiritual nourishment. Then, after worship, the real fun begins. All throughout the building, there will be committees, ministries, teams, and spiritual practice groups ready to show you what it’s like to be part of their work! Have you always wondered what the choir is like? Or how working in the garden is a spiritual practice? Or whether you’re secretly the kind of person who should be on the finance committee? Then Plug In Sunday is your chance to find out! Come ready to be surprised, delighted, and amazed by all of the ways you can be a part of the UUCC community.

Phew! January will be a fun and exciting month at UUCC. We have so many opportunities to live our Unitarian Universalist faith with intention, joy, and love, and I hope to see everybody for these great Sundays.

In faith,

Rev. Hannah
