Join us for worship this Sunday as we explore what it means to begin again as a community. As our Jewish friends and neighbors prepare to mark Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and the Days of Awe, culminating in Yom Kippur, we will find wisdom in Jewish teachings about how to begin again after we’ve let each other down. All are welcome!

Our Classes This Week are as follows:
Library
Title: Board Q & A
Description: Come talk with the Board about our recent letter on updated financial policies and procedures, or any other questions or comments you might have about governance of our church. If time allows, we will also share our goals for the year.

Sanctuary
Title: Revisiting the UUA Empowerment Controversy
Join Rev. Hannah to learn more about how the UUA has struggled with race and racism in its history, and how that history impacts our faith movement today.

Social Hall
Title: Zen Stories
Gene Heater will lead this session exploring key points of Buddhism through reading and discussion of Zen stories.

JOYS and CONCERNS
Dani Roeseler is recovering nicely at Life Care in Rm 41, and she welcomes visitors!  Please keep her in your thoughts.
If you have any Joys, Concerns, Personal Congratulations (Birthdays, Anniversaries, Graduations, etc.) that you would like to share with the Congregation, please email the administrator at administrator@uucheyenne.org. The newsletter is published every Wednesday at noon, so submissions must be received by 10am Tuesday morning to be in that week’s newsletter.

Please Note:
  • If you would like your submission to run more than one week, please include that in your email.
  • If you would like your submission included in that Sunday’s Joys and Concerns section of the service, please include this in your email; otherwise it will only be in the newsletter.
Thank you!
ANNOUNCEMENTS

The cottage meetings are a time to explore  the values you  hold dear and how the UUCC and the congregation fit in to that. This is our first step in working together to create our new mission statement. We hope that you will join us for this important work.

Please be sure to sign up for a meeting time. Sign-up sheets will be in the lobby this Sunday.

It would REALLY be appreciated if we could find at least 1 volunteer to assist in the sound booth. Randy and Harley are unavailable through November.  Experience is not necessary: we will train you. If you or someone you know would be willing to volunteer to help us in this capacity, please contact Rev. Hannah at minister@uucheyenne.org, or Tamra Mabe, our Administrator, at 638-4554 or by email at administrator@uucheyenne.org. Thanks!

Important! Please Read!

We have been experiencing a growing issue with peanut residue in the building, especially in the library.  Please, do not bring peanut products into the building, and if your little ones enjoy their peanut butter snacks before coming, please be sure their hands are clean before they touch surfaces used by everyone.  We are seeing almost daily allergic reactions, so we ask you to please be diligent. It may be an inconvenience to you, but it can be life-threatening to those who are allergic.

LOOK WHAT UUCC Sunday Faith Development classes have for youth!
Spirit Play ages (3yrs – 3rd grade)  – Spirit Play is a Montessori-based learning/classroom model developed to foster exploration in our youngest youth.
Harry and UU (3rd grade – adult) – Get ready for some fun as we join Dumbledore’s Army and fight Horcruxes all year long! It’s going to be a blast… wait till you see our Harry Potter classroom!!! Come join the fun!

Families of 3rd graders – The Faith Development team learned that we have lots of 3rd grade youth who really would like to have a choice of what class they attend this year. Since we’re starting off our very first Spirit Play classroom, we’d love to have the youth attend in Spirit Play, but we realize the excitement around the Harry Potter curriculum is overwhelming great. If your 3rd grader would like to attend the Harry and UU class, they are welcome to check them out. Our 3rd grade youth will have the choice of attending either the classrooms this year.

Have fun and find your inner wizard if you’d like! OR come hang our with the younger crowd. We’ll explore all kinds of faith based UU stories and traditions through our Spirit Play curriculum. More about each curriculum can be found here.

Come check out our Book Swap area in the lobby. Some amazing new chapter books have been added! Bring a book to swap or just grab one that looks interesting. This area is kind of our rendition of a ‘Free Library” for youth. Please, help Dumbledore’s Army fight the Illiteracy Horcrux! READ A BOOK TODAY!!!

Faith Development Needs You!!! UUCC needs your help and commitment to bring our community the most vibrant and valuable faith experiences for our youth. Our two main offerings for Faith Development this year are NEW for us. Youth ages 3 years to 3rd grade will be experiencing the much awaited SPIRIT PLAY classes. The older group ages 3rd grade  to adult are exploring the Harry and UU curriculum based on social actions awareness programs and the famous Harry Potter books written by J.K. Rowling (teachers and guides are invited to dress up in a HP costume every single week if they’d like to add to the full experience). Please stop by the registration table in the Social Hall during this weeks (Sept 8th) Pot Luck or contact Mary Scherden, DFD @ dfd@uucheyenne.org for more information.
